I need your lovin’, like the sunshine…

I am excited and honored to announce that I have been nominated for my second bog award! In addition to basking in the rays from the Sunshine Award, I am now feeling the love of the Liebster! My sincere thanks to dear Stella, for the warm nomination. I respect you and am deeply moved by your posts, and am certainly sending the love back at ya!

So the rules this time are that I have to answer 10 random questions from the person who nominated me. Here goes:

1. Why did you start blogging?

I started this blog as part of an English Writing course I was taking in college. I used it for my assignments and tried to network a bit in the blogging world. Then I used it as a journal when I was studying abroad, and eventually abandoned it. I revisited and reinvented it starting from this New Year, as one of my resolutions. I even tried to do Daily Prompts and attempted the Zero-To-Hero challenge, which definitely helped invigorate my blogging.

2. What is your favorite quote?

I have so many. “Everything happens for a reason.” “When a door closes, a window opens.” “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” I think these are among my top ones, and you can probably tell there’s a theme here.

3. If i told you that you had to perform in a talent show tomorrow, what would you use as your talent?

Dance. Maybe even improv dance.

4. What is at the top of your bucket list of things to do before you die?

Again, so many…Change someone’s life for the better. Become a holistic practitioner. Travel to all 7 continents. Mother a child.

5. Who is your hero/mentor in your life?

The Nanny.  As for non-fictional people: Paulo Coelho; Joshua Rosenthal; Alicia Silverstone.

6. What is your favorite season?

7. Do you have any pets?

Yes, a Persian smoky-colored fluffy cat.

8. What is your sign and do you believe in horoscopes?

Pisces; to an extent. I think there is truth behind the patterns and compatibility, but there are exceptions to every rule.

9. If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

To heal people.

10. Where do you do most of your writing?

On my laptop, at the kitchen table. Or whenever I can sneak it in at work.

And, to spread the love, the Liebster awardees have to nominate 10 blogs with less than 200 followers. Here are my nominees:

(1 extra for good luck!)

Nominees, here are the 10 random questions for you to answer:

1. What is the goal behind your blog?

2. How do you intend to use your writing?

3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?

4. If money were no object, how would you spend your days?

5. What are you most grateful for at this moment?

6. What is a hidden talent you have?

7. Do you believe in the supernatural?

8. What habit do you want to break in your life?

9. What is your signature flavor/smell?

10. What advice would you give to a large group of people?

Now pass on the love, Liebsters!

Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone…

Wow, I have received the “Sunshine” Award – my very first Bog Award! Thank you, Victoria, for nominating me!

Per the Sunshine Award protocol (see below), here are 11 facts about myself:

  1. My favorite book growing up was The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis.
  2. I read it in Russian, which is my native tongue.
  3. I was born and raised in Ukraine, but speak fluently in Russian, not Ukrainian. Ukrainian was secondary to Russian when I was growing up (although it is the national language and heavily emphasized there now), but I can understand it…whether or not Ukrainians understand my Ukrainian is a different story.
  4. I had a similar experience of mis-communication when I tried to speak Spanish in Italy. I understood a lot of what was said to me by picking out the Latin roots, but my listeners were lost when I tried to answer back in Spanish.
  5. The above happened when a friend and I visited her long-lost relatives in Sicily. She looked them up when we studied abroad in Europe. I spent a wonderful semester in 3 countries: 5 weeks each in Salamanca (Spain), Paris (France) and Rome (Italy).
  6. As you have probably gathered, I love to travel. My personal theory is that immigrants are more predisposed to moving throughout their lives and traveling. For some reason, we just can’t sit still and are always on the lookout for a better place to be, whether temporarily or to settle down in. And since we’ve gone through it before, it takes the pressure and the fear off of attempting it yet again.
  7. I moved to America with my family when I was 9.
  8. Without having to go to far, I love to immerse myself in other worlds, through various forms of art. This is why I love to read, listen to music, see performances of the opera/ballet/dance shows, visit art exhibits, and watch movies.
  9. I also like to participate in the arts. I dance and teach dance, and I sketch. Recently I have started to paint.
  10. My favorite color is purple.
  11. And to bring it back full circle: I am currently re-reading the entire Chronicles of Narnia series, in English this time. It’s a little awkward reading a children’s illustrated novel on the public transport, but hey – stranger things are seen in NYC!
